Discover Cairo on a 2-day air tour from Sharm El Sheikh, combining the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Cairo Citadel and Old Cairo. Enjoy guided sightseeing with a qualified Egyptologist, local lunch, an overnight stay in a 4* hotel with breakfast, and domestic flights between Sharm El Sheikh and Cairo.
Touring Giza Plateau and the Pyramids
Your two-day Cairo experience with Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum starts with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh. Your air-conditioned transfer will take you to the airport for a short flight to Cairo. After landing our Egyptologist guide will meet you to guide through a full day of cultural discovery.
The morning is dedicated to the Giza Plateau, where the monuments of Egypt’s Old Kingdom are gathered in one archaeological area. Start with the Great Pyramid of Khufu, followed by the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure. Your guide will introduce you to the rulers who commissioned these structures and explain how the pyramid complexes were planned and used.
There will be free time around the plateau to take photographs and enjoy different views of the pyramids. If you would like to add something special to the visit, a camel ride can be arranged as an optional activity.
Continue towards the Sphinx and its Valley Temple. Take a closer look at the carved figure and learn about its role within the Giza funerary complex, as well as the theories surrounding its construction and purpose.
After the morning sightseeing, stop for lunch at a local restaurant. This is a chance to take a break before continuing with the afternoon program.
Grand Egyptian museum guided tour
Next, head to the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the story of ancient Egypt is presented through an extensive collection of archaeological objects. The museum provides an opportunity to see objects from different periods of Egyptian history together in a purpose-built setting.
Among the displays are royal statues, funerary objects, everyday items and other archaeological finds that illustrate how Egyptian society developed over thousands of years. The museum also presents the treasures of Tutankhamun, while the Khufu’s Boats Museum gives visitors a closer look at the ancient solar boat discovered near the Great Pyramid.
Before leaving the Giza area, make a short stop at local shopping venues. Depending on your interests, you can look for papyrus artwork, Egyptian perfumes, spices, cotton products and handmade souvenirs.
In the evening, continue to your 4* hotel in Cairo for check-in. Overnight accommodation is provided on a Bed & Breakfast basis.
The rest of the evening is free. You may simply relax at the hotel or choose an optional evening activity in Cairo.
Tour to the Cairo Citadel
After breakfast, set out for the Cairo Citadel, a fortified complex built on the Mokattam Hills during the medieval period. Its elevated position offers broad views over the city and helps explain why this location was chosen for Cairo’s defensive system.
Explore the Citadel grounds and visit the Mosque of Muhammad Ali. Built in the 19th century, the mosque is distinguished by its large dome, slender minarets and spacious interior decorated with alabaster. Your guide will introduce you to the building’s history and its place in Cairo’s architectural heritage.
Following the visit, take a break for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the historic part of the city.
Old Cairo sightseeing
The afternoon takes you to Old Cairo, an area where monuments belonging to several religious traditions stand within a relatively small district. Walk through the Coptic quarter and visit the Hanging Church, built above part of the old Roman fortress of Babylon.
Continue to Saint Sergius and Bacchus Church, a site connected with the tradition of the Holy Family’s stay in Egypt, followed by Saint Barbara Church, known for its early Coptic architecture and religious heritage.
The route will also include the Ben Ezra Synagogue, an important landmark of Cairo’s Jewish history and the nearby remains of the Roman fortress of Babylon will provide another layer to the history of the area.
After completing the Old Cairo visit, we go back to Cairo International Airport for your flight to Sharm El Sheikh. On arrival, our driver will meet you at the airport and arrange the return transfer.
